4 Things Women Should Be Doing in Their Fitness Training - But Aren't

BINGO!!!

I come across articles like this every so often on Yahoo's home page. Usually they are toting some sort of yogalates, a fancy new ab gizmo, or telling women not to lift heavy things because it will make them big and bulky! (does this girl look "big and bulky" to you?)

BUT this article hit the nail right on the head!

  1. High-intensity training: It is OK to break a sweat in the gym! Actually, it is kind of the idea. Don't be afraid to push past your comfort zone a little bit. That's how you will get better!
  2. Heavier Lifting: This is one of the biggest myths in the fitness industry. Many women think that if they lift weights they will get "big and bulky". Click Here, Here, and Here. Those girls aren't lifting 5lb dumbbells!
  3. Upper body workouts: I get this question quite a bit with new clients. "Why are we doing arm stuff? I want to work on my core." As said in the article, YOU CANNOT SPOT REDUCE!! Doing 1000 crunches a day is not the way to a flat belly!
  4. Training with a barbell: There is a reason barbells have been around since the 1840's.
