Bull Sh*t Meter On Red Alert!

My wife showed me THIS POST, from http://naturalbias.com/ the other day.  Did you know the FDA's food labeling regulations state...
"if the serving contains less than 0.5 grams [of trans fat], the content, when declared, shall be expressed as zero."
So the snack food companies saw this loophole and decided to lower the serving sizes.  Now the trans fat per serving is below 0.5 so they can advertise 0g Trans Fat!
Even though the ingredient list has "partially hydrogenated soybean oil or canola oil"!  For those of you that don't know, partially hydrogenated oils are trans fats!  And it has been proven many times that consumption of trans fats, more than any other nutrient, leads directly to heart disease.

I don't mean to pick on Cheetos, or any other snack food company.  I simply want to point out that this is one of the biggest flaws of our food system.  I have nothing against a company making a product and selling it.  I have nothing against McDonalds, Frito Lay, or cigarette companies.  They are all following the rules.  They are making a product, promoting the product and selling the product.  The problem is not with the food manufacturers and restaurants, the problem is with the rule makers.

I have an idea.  How about the FDA makes it mandatory for food companies to include ALL ingredients and nutrition information on a label?  Food companies can still put whatever they want in their foods, they simply have to tell us what is in it.

Imagine that.  A world where we can easily view a food label and know what is in the package!

and the Government wonders why no one trusts them. Seems like the entire food industry needs an overhaul.
