Do Some Front Squats Today



The front squat is one of the best exercises to improve your strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, and balance.  WOW, that's a lot of useful stuff!

"But Mike, I've never done a front squat before."
That's OK!  There is no better time to try something new than right now.

  • Grab a barbell, dumbbell, kettlebell, or any other form of weight.
  • Rest the barbell on your shoulders like this...
    • Or, if you have crappy flexibility you can hold it like this...
    •  Or if you are using another form of weight you can hold it like this...
    • Then you simply perform a squat.  Make sure to keep your elbows up (this is a good thing to think about so your chest will stay up and your back will stay nice a straight).
    • Be sure to stick your butt back so you don't let that weight pull you forward (like I let it do a couple times in the above video... Damn that was heavy!)
    • And... SQUAT DEEP!!!  If he can do it...

    Warning: Do not perform a front squat unless you have perfected the air squat first!  You should never add and external load unless you have perfected a movement pattern first.  For more info on how to work on your air squat click HERE.
