Don't Let Injuries Derail You

I broke one of my own rules last week. I let an injury (a very minor one) derail me from my workout and diet routine.

My right hip has been bothering me for a little over a month. I asked a client of mine, who is an orthopedic surgeon, what the problem might be. He told me I had some inflammation in the hip joint. He told me to stay away from anything that might aggravate it for a week (no squats, lunges, burpees, stairs...) and take some anti-inflammatory medication for a month.

I heeded my doctors advice and laid off the heavy squats and cleans last week. On Monday I did a workout that involved a lot of pullups, pushups and double-unders. Tuesday I rowed, practiced handstand pushups and did some push-presses. Then... I didn't work out the rest of the week!

I used the hip as an excuse. I only worked out two times last week. Then on Saturday I ate an obscene amount of chicken wings (E. Syracuse Little League Fund Raiser: All you can eat chicken wings) and drank about 6 glasses of wine. The next morning I went to Ruston's Diner in Jamesville and got an omelet with Gianelli sausage and sausage gravy on it.

Side Note: When the waitress came to our table she asked me if I wanted "the usual". I have always wanted to have a "usual" at a diner! I was so excited! It has always been a dream of mine to walk into a diner and say "I'll have the usual".

Side Note 2: I have eaten way too many omlets with Gianelli sausage and sausage gravy at Ruston's Diner.
The result of all these bad choices? I gained 3lb last week! There is no good reason for it, so don't let it happen to you. An injury is no excuse to fall off the wagon.

Back on the wagon this week. Did some squats on Monday and the hip feels good. I'm looking forward to a good week of workouts!

those were good wings and good wine though...Twin Trees won best overall!

love this blog to put your daily actions in words for you to reflect on!

Exercise in proper form to avoid injuries while doing the routine.
