Crossfit Games Northeast Regional

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Daniel Goldberg, a friend and colleague, on his 12th place finish in the 2011 Crossfit Games Northeast Regional!  Out of the six workouts Dan finished no lower than 22nd place and he finished as high as 3rd in a workout.  You can view all of Dan's results HERE.  Dan's goal for next year is to finish in the top three at the Regional, which would qualify him for the Crossfit Games in California.

Watching Dan train and compete the past couple years has inspired me to do the same.  I have decided to train for the 2012 Crossfit Open (online qualifier).  While Dan is shooting for the Crossfit Games in California, I will be aiming for the Northeast Regional.  I will have to finish top 60 in the Northeast Open in order to compete in the Northeast Regional.  You can view the competition format HERE.

In order to make it to the Crossfit Northeast Regional I will have to dedicate a full year to strict training, nutrition and recovery.  This is one of the reasons I have given up alcohol for a full year.  Alcohol will only set me back in my training.

My nutrition has been pretty good for the past few months.  There are a couple areas I feel I need to address in order to get maximum benefit out of my training.  The two main nutrients I feel I need to add are fish oil and vitamin D.  I would like to get these nutrients naturally by eating more fish (Salmon, Tuna, Sardines) and not take supplements.

My training has been going well.  I have not skipped a workout session in a while.  I have been doing the Crossfit main site workouts for the past couple weeks.  I feel this is going to be adequate training for a few weeks.  It will ensure I don't neglect any movement and will give me a good base of fitness to work on down the road.  It will also expose which movements I am not good at.  My next step will be to add extra strength and power training along with spending extra time on my weaknesses, but this will be down the road.

My recovery has been very good the past few weeks.  I have been getting an adequate amount of sleep, around 7 hours a night, but may need more as I increase my training volume.  I feel I should do a little more soft tissue work, like foam rolling, at the end of my workouts.  This will help my recovery as I increase my training volume down the road.

I will continue to post my daily nutrition and workouts in my Diet + Workout Log.  Please follow my progress and give me any feedback or advice.

Thanks for the support brodog, you're going to do great this year, cannot wait to workout together
