Happy Birthday United States!

How are you celebrating our countries birthday?

Blowing stuff up?

Hopefully your fireworks are a bit smaller!
Eating Hot dogs?
Nothing says Happy Birthday U.S. like eating a bunch of over processed meat!

Spending time with family?

I will be getting out of bed nice and early to work out.  Because I cannot go to the gym in the morning I will not be able to do the WOD (Workout Of the Day).  I will do the Crossfit Workout "RJ" at home.  "RJ" is 5 rounds for time of 800m run, 15ft rope climb x5 ascends, 50 pushups.

"RJ" is a workout named after SgtMaj Robert J. Cottle.  Here is a short writeup about him from
"Veteran LAPD officer and United States Marine Corps Reservist Sergeant Major Robert J Cottle, 45, was killed by an improvised explosive device while on patrol in Southern Afghanistan on Wednesday, March 24, 2010. RJ joined the Marines at age 18, and the LAPD in 1990. His various LAPD assignments included Hollywood Vice, Southeast Area, LAPD Dive Team and, most recently, SWAT.

He is survived by his wife Emily and 9 month old daughter Kaila. The LAPD established a trust fund for them.

One of the best things about Crossfit is their dedication to the people who put their lives on the line every day so we can live our lives the way we want.  They name many workouts after fallen heroes.  Every time I perform one of these workouts I push myself a little harder.  How can I slow down knowing the sacrifice that was given?

So whatever it is you are doing to celebrate this great countries birthday, please keep in mind those who sacrificed so you can celebrate.

P.S.  I did the workout this morning.  I was only able to do 3 rounds due to time constraints (have to be at my sister's house by 10).  I am terrible at the rope climbs.  I was unable to reach the top but I forced myself to do at least 4 pulls for each climb.  The rope also gave me a few rope burns.  Ouch!!

P.P.S.  It's evening on the 4th of July.  I hope everybody had a great 4th of July weekend.  I was able to do the workout "Morrison" (also a hero workout) this afternoon with a man with a purple heart (My Brother).  It kicked my butt!  But I was proud to have done two, or really one and a half, hero workouts on our nations birthday.

I'll be working 7-2, getting some bodyweight work in behind the desk in the slower times, and then a BBQ with family during which my plate will lean paleo.
