Making Healthy Choices

I went to a wedding this weekend in Pittsburgh.

"I had to have some wedding cake!"

"It was a long drive to Pittsburgh, all there was to eat was fast food!"
"Who doesn't drink at a wedding?  I had to have some cocktails!"

Sound familiar?  Are these excuses you have used in the past?  I know I have!  In the past I probably have gained 5lbs on average during wedding weekends.  Eating McDonald's on the car trip... eating wedding cake... copious amounts of beer...  All added up to large amounts of fat gain!

I didn't want that to happen this year, so I took some simple steps to avoid glutenous behavior.
  1. I brought a few apples, oranges and nuts for the car trip.  You are bound to get hungry traveling from Syracuse to Pittsburgh.  Fruit and nuts are easy to eat in the car while driving and kept me satisfied through the trip.
  2. At the wedding they had a spread of cookies, cakes, brownies, pies, pastries... just about every sugary, diabetes causing, food you could think of.  I stuck with some deli meat, fresh cheeses and the fruit bowl (I think I was the only one eating the fruit.  Except for the guy who picked out all the watermelon!).  Deli meat and cheeses aren't the best choices, but I did the best with what I had to work with.
  3. Did you know it isn't a rule that you have to drink alcohol at a wedding?  I know!  Surprising isn't it?  I sipped on water all night and had a great time watching "Elaine" on the dance floor!  There is one at every wedding...

It was a great wedding and a very fun weekend.  I stuck to my guns and was a pound lighter come Monday morning!

You missed one: Dancing is awesome exercise!
