Childhood Obesity Ads

Recently the following anti-obesity advertisements have been running in the state of Georgia.

My initial instinct was to say "Good!  These people need a kick in the pants!"  These advertisements could be a great thing.  It could be the slap in the face some people need to actually change their lives.  Many people will change their habits after viewing images such as these.

On the other side of the coin, being over weight is very emotional for many individuals.  Throwing it in their faces, like these advertisements do, could be more harmful than good.  Many people will take offense to the images in these commercials and fall back to what makes them comfortable... Food.

I really don't know what side to take on this issue.  What do you think of the advertisements?  Do you think they would do more help than harm?

I'm not sure how I feel either but I hope they don't just shoot these commercials and send these kids on their way...can't imagine the ramifications of being put in the spotlight under this circumstance.

The children in these commercials were paid actors. I assume they knew what they were signing up for.

I'll have to chime in here- paid actors or not, playing the role of a fat kid in an obesity commercial has to affect you some how. Hopefully they will see the commercials and change their lifestyles, but adolescents are in a difficult time in their life as it is. Having their weight put into the spot light and then not being helped would be detrimental to them, in my opinion.
