Do you need to listen to music while working out?

"If you need music to motivate you, or to make you work harder, then go find something else to do." - Josh Everett

That is one of my favorite quotes of all time.  I don't necessarily agree with it, but I do understand it.

When I'm in the middle of a WOD, I don't hear the music that's playing.  I'm in my own little world.  It can be completely silent in the gym while doing a WOD.  I do like music playing during strength sessions.  I don't need it to motivate me.  I just listen to keep me entertained during rest periods.

I'll listen to country music, a talk radio show, or a podcast.  Not things usually associated with working out, but it works for me.
