FOOD FOR THE WEEKEND: Include These Fats In Your Diet - By Pat Commeret

Once on track with a healthy diet, we find the many health benefits of fats in our diet. The fat phobia in our country is coming to an end with all the results and proven health benefits people are experiencing by including fats in their diets.

One particular fat that has unique benefits is Coconut oil. Coconut oil is a Medium chain triglyceride, which gives it the unique function to digest much more quickly than other fats. If mobilizing fat as a fuel source is important to you, which is a goal of many people, you will find taking Medium chain triglycerides in the early portion of your day will increase your body's ability to use fat as fuel. The rapid rise in triglycerides in the morning can prolong the morning ketogenisis that occurs when we wake. This will cause the body to burn more fat and waste energy in the ongoing process to produce ketones. One table spoon in the morning can be good enough for most. It tastes great mixed in coffee. Give it a try and see how you feel.

Cod Liver oil is also over looked at being a source of healthy fat, and a beneficial part of a diet in certain locations of the world. Cod Liver oil's benefits start with its healthy source of DHA/EPA fats, which are a polyunsaturated fat. DHA/EPA help brain function and have anti inflammatory property's. Cod Liver Oil was routinely given to children in the 1960's as a source of vitamin D in northern Europe where sunlight is limited during their long winters.  Vitamin D deficiency is very common here in Syracuse. Also when comparing Cod Liver oil to traditional fish oil, the time it takes Cod liver oil to go rancid is much longer than the counterpart that is sold right next to it, fish oil. This can be a beneficial supplement for an active individual, as well as a Central New York resident.
