TIP OF THE WEEK: Quality Over Quantity - By Pat Commeret

Quality over quantity is the name of the game for a lot of CrossFit athletes.  It is very easy in CrossFit to get caught up in all the different programming options and all the different work you can do on movements to improve technique and strength. Sometimes it is very easy to get caught up in adding more training volume in hopes of improving.  This can sometimes deplete the quality of training because your volume of training is too high.

Some of the best athletes at the elite level, such as Jason Khalipa and Scott Panchik will describe their training as very purposeful and productive. This is without having to spend 8 hours a day training. At a local level at CrossFit Syracuse I would like to highlight Ben Quilty as a great example. Ben trains very intelligently.  He listens to his body and puts the brakes on when he needs too. When Ben is feeling good and steps into the gym, you can bet he is going to give 110% on every workout and maximize his performance. He shows this by not only consistently putting up top scores on the board but also being in the top 250 in the North East Region in this years CrossFit Open.  He sits just behind Regional athlete Dan Goldberg in the in house gym rankings.

Listen to your body, but when you are hearing that countdown for the WOD, make sure you're ready to give 110% and leave it all on the floor.
